What Parents & Teens Should Know

Participants ages 14–17 are welcome. A parent or guardian must provide consent before participation. Parents are welcome to attend the session.

Background Information

Have you ever been concerned with your child's online safety? If you have, you are certainly not alone. At Aerendir Mobile, we are also concerned with the online safety of teens and children. So, we seek to develop technology that detects whether someone is above or below a legal age with simply a touch of a device, mobile phone, or tablet. With this, we hope to revolutionize child safety by creating a device that will decline underage access to age-restricted items such as alcohol, drugs, e-cigarettes, and adult content. But, in order to develop this technology, we need help from you and your teen.

Activity Details

With parent permission, we seek to collect measurements of hand micro-vibrational patterns from teenagers, ages 14 to 17. Involvement will take about 10 minutes per person. Below is a description of what participants will be asked to do:

1. Truthfully, tell us your age. We will also ask for height and weight, but no personally identifiable information. This is an anonymous activity.
2. Hold a device, similar to the size of a smartphone, in a relaxed manner for 20 seconds at a time, for about 20 times. This device contains sensors which will measure micro-vibrational activity from the hand.
3. That's it! There is no physical risk involved. It is just like holding your phone.
